What is a flood test? Why is it critical?

Hello Donnie D. with Donnie D’s Tile & Remodeling LLC spotswood New Jersey here welcome back!

Today I will discuss key points about a Tiled shower flood test in Spotswood New Jersey and why it is so critical for your walk in shower build in Monroe New Jersey, and surrounding area of central new jersey.

  1. A flood test is a way of testing the waterproofing in your newly built walk in shower.

  2. A flood test will expose the shower base to more water than it will ever see. That said its not a bath tub or pool and not meant to hold water. Doing this test for 24hours will pressurize the water proofing in the shower. If there is a leak somewhere the water level will go down. The water will evaporate some 1/16” - 1/8” of a inch, anymore than that water is getting out somewhere and needs to be addressed.

  3. Flood testing a shower is simple, plug the drain with a proper drain plug, and them fill up the shower with water a few inches to test or seams and corners.

  4. Taking this. step will delay the project but will ensure a leak free shower for years to come. You will know when hiring us the shower will be flood tested. Will film our projects to ensure every step was taken on your shower build!

  5. Why is it so critical? Well simply put, if the shower is not tested and then starts leaking, you wont be able to find the leak unless to remove all the tile and even then it very hard to find a leak in the waterproofing, depending on the system used.

Be Certain that the shower you have built or if you do it yourself, take the time and flood test the shower. The photos and videos below to help.
